Learn how Orion intelligently switches between Quick and Deep Analysis modes to give you the best results.

TL;DR

You don’t choose a mode - just chat with Orion naturally:
  • If Orion can answer from existing project data → Instant response (Quick Chat)
  • If Orion needs to do new research → Enters Deep Analysis: asks clarifying questions, shows you a task plan, and waits for you to say “start” (takes 30-45 min)
The same chat interface handles both. Orion decides what’s needed and guides you through it.

How It Works

One Chat Interface, Two Modes

When you ask Orion a question, it follows this process:
  1. Checks existing knowledge - Orion searches through its memory, project settings, and past insights
  2. Determines the path:
    • Can answer now → Quick Chat (instant response)
    • Needs new research → Deep Analysis (comprehensive investigation)
You don’t manually switch modes - Orion adapts automatically based on what your question requires.

Quick Chat

What Is It?

Quick Chat is when Orion responds instantly using existing project data, memory, or completed insights. No waiting, no extra steps - just immediate answers in the chat.

What Can Quick Chat Do?

Quick Chat is incredibly versatile and handles much more than simple edits: Content & Formatting:
  • Adjust formatting (“Bold this section,” “Add bullet points”)
  • Refine length (“Shorten this,” “Expand on this point”)
  • Change tone or style (“Simplify the language,” “Make this more technical”)
  • Reorganize content structure
Data & Analysis Questions:
  • Understand results (“Where did this number come from?”)
  • Get clarifications (“How was this calculated?”)
  • Explore findings (“What data supports this conclusion?”)
  • Pull specific information from past insights
Iterative Refinement:
  • Add context or detail to sections
  • Modify visualizations or tables
  • Adjust recommendations
  • Refine conclusions based on feedback
Project Navigation:
  • Ask about past findings
  • Reference previous insights
  • Understand project history
  • Connect dots across analyses
And much more - if the answer exists in Orion’s knowledge of your project, Quick Chat handles it instantly.

Example Interactions

You: "Where did the 47% number come from in the executive summary?"
Orion: [Instant response explaining the data source and calculation]

You: "Make the recommendations section more concise"
Orion: [Immediately provides refined version]

You: "What did we learn about customer churn in the Q2 analysis?"
Orion: [Pulls information from past insight and summarizes]

Best Practices for Quick Chat

Be specific with requests:
  • ✅ “Shorten the executive summary to 3 key bullets”
  • ❌ “Make this better”
Ask follow-up questions freely - The instant responses make it easy to iterate and refine Reference past work - Quick Chat excels at pulling from project history

Deep Analysis

What Is It?

Deep Analysis is triggered automatically when your question requires new research that goes beyond existing project knowledge. This mode creates a comprehensive new insight from scratch.

How You’ll Know You’re in Deep Analysis

The experience changes noticeably when Orion enters Deep Analysis mode:

1. Clarifying Questions Phase

Orion will ask follow-up questions to fully understand your needs. This is your opportunity to:
  • Expand on your initial question
  • Add important context
  • Clarify specific requirements
  • Provide additional details that will improve the analysis
Don’t rush this phase - the more context you provide, the better your final insight will be.

2. Task Plan Generation

Orion generates a Deep Analysis task that breaks down all the steps it will take to complete your analysis.
Review this task plan carefully before proceeding. It shows you exactly what Orion plans to do and ensures you’re aligned on the approach. This is your chance to course-correct before Orion spends 30-45 minutes analyzing.

3. Manual Confirmation Required

Unlike Quick Chat, Deep Analysis won’t start automatically. Orion will ask you for confirmation first, and then you need to verbally tell Orion to begin:
  • “Start the analysis”
  • “Begin the insight”
  • “Let’s do it”
  • “Start the insight”
Be explicit so Orion knows you’re ready to proceed.

4. Processing & Notification

  • Deep Analysis typically takes 30-45 minutes
  • You’ll receive an email notification when complete
  • You can close the chat and continue other work while Orion processes
  • The completed insight will be available in your project

What Triggers Deep Analysis?

Orion enters Deep Analysis mode when you ask questions that require:
  • New research or data collection
  • Analysis that hasn’t been done before
  • Comprehensive investigations across multiple data sources
  • Building insights from scratch
  • Complex multi-step research processes

Example Triggers

You: "What's the correlation between our pricing strategy and customer
retention across different segments?"
Orion: [Asks clarifying questions, generates task plan, waits for confirmation]

You: "Analyze how our competitors are positioning their new product launches"
Orion: [Enters Deep Analysis - needs to conduct new research]

You: "Compare our Q3 performance against industry benchmarks"
Orion: [Deep Analysis required - comprehensive investigation needed]

Best Practices for Deep Analysis

Answer clarifying questions thoroughly. Take your time during the Q&A phase. The more context you provide upfront, the better aligned your final insight will be with what you need.
Review the task plan carefully. This is your opportunity to ensure Orion’s approach matches your expectations. Ask for changes if something doesn’t look right.
Be strategic about timing. Since Deep Analysis takes 30-45 minutes, consider batching related questions together or starting an analysis before a break.

Tips for Success

Think of it as a conversation

The chat interface is designed to be natural. Don’t worry about choosing modes - just ask what you need, and Orion handles the rest.

Start with your question

If you’re unsure whether it will trigger Deep Analysis, just ask. Orion will let you know if it needs to conduct deeper research and will guide you through the process.

Use each mode strategically

  • Quick Chat: Great for iterating rapidly on existing work
  • Deep Analysis: Best for strategic questions that require comprehensive investigation

Quick Chat after Deep Analysis

Once a Deep Analysis completes, you can use Quick Chat to refine the insight, ask follow-up questions, or adjust formatting - all instantly.
